This guide explains how to connect your Shopify store to Taxually for automatic transaction data synchronisation. You can connect multiple Shopify stores to a single Taxually account.
Before You Start
Requirements
- A Shopify store with admin access (store owner or staff with Apps permission)
- A Taxually account with at least one company set up
- Access to the Shopify App Store
Installing the Taxually App
From the Shopify App Store
- Go to the Shopify App Store and search for "Taxually"
- Click on the Taxually app listing
- Click "Add app" or "Install"
- If prompted, select which store to install the app on
From Your Shopify Admin
- Log in to your Shopify admin
- Go to Apps in the sidebar
- Click "Shopify App Store" at the bottom
- Search for "Taxually" and install
Connecting Your Store
Step 1: Authorise the App
- After clicking Install, Shopify will show you the permissions the app requires
- Review the permissions (read-only access to orders and locations)
- Click "Install app" to proceed
Step 2: Open the App
- Once installed, click "Open app" or find Taxually in your Apps list
- You'll see the Taxually app home page with connection options
Step 3: Log In to Taxually
- Click "Connect to Taxually"
- You'll be redirected to the Taxually login page
- Log in with your Taxually credentials
- If you don't have an account, click Sign Up to create one first
Step 4: Select Your Company
- After logging in, you'll see the Shopify connection page
- If you have multiple companies in Taxually, select which company this store should be linked to from the dropdown
- Click "Connect Store"
Step 5: Connection Complete
- You'll see a confirmation message
- You'll be redirected back to the Taxually app within Shopify
- The app will now show your store as Connected
Verifying Your Connection
Once connected, the Taxually app home page will display:
- Status: Connected ✓
- Connected Company: The Taxually company name
- Store: Your Shopify store name
Connecting Multiple Stores
You can connect multiple Shopify stores to a single Taxually account. Each store can be linked to:
- The same company (if all stores belong to one business entity)
- Different companies (if you manage multiple business entities)
How to Add Another Store
- Log in to your other Shopify store's admin
- Install the Taxually app from the Shopify App Store
- Follow the same connection steps above
- When selecting a company, choose the appropriate one for that store
Disconnecting Your Store
If you need to disconnect your Shopify store from Taxually:
From Taxually
- Log in to Taxually
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- Find your Shopify store in the list
- Click Disconnect
From Shopify (Uninstall)
- In your Shopify admin, go to Apps
- Find Taxually in your installed apps
- Click "Delete" or the three dots (⋮) menu and select "Uninstall"
- Confirm the uninstallation
What Happens When You Disconnect
- Data already synced remains in Taxually (historical data is preserved)
- Future data will no longer be automatically pulled
- You can reconnect at any time by reinstalling the app
Reconnecting After Disconnection
If you reconnect the same store:
- It can be linked to the same or a different company
- Historical data from before disconnection remains with the original company
- New data will sync to the newly connected company
Managing Connections in Taxually
Viewing Connected Stores
To see which Shopify stores are connected to your Taxually account:
- Log in to Taxually
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- You'll see a list of connected Shopify stores
Connection Details
For each connected store, you can see:
- Store name and URL (e.g., my-store.myshopify.com)
- Connected company
- Connection date
- Last sync status
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
"Connection Failed" Error
- Session expired: Try again – you may need to log in again
- Network timeout: Check your internet connection and retry
- App outdated: Uninstall and reinstall the app to get the latest version
"No Companies Found" Error
This means your Taxually account doesn't have any companies set up yet. To fix this:
- Log in to Taxually directly at app.taxually.com
- Complete the onboarding to create your first company
- Return to the Shopify app and try connecting again
"Store Already Connected" Error
Each Shopify store can only be connected to one Taxually company at a time. If you want to connect to a different company:
- Disconnect the store first (via Taxually Settings → Integrations)
- Reconnect and select the new company
Connection Keeps Failing
If you continue to have issues:
- Clear your browser cookies/cache
- Try using a different browser
- Ensure third-party cookies are enabled for Shopify admin
- Contact Taxually support with your store URL
Security & Permissions
What Access Does Taxually Have?
When you connect your store, Taxually receives:
- Read-only access to orders and refunds
- Read-only access to locations (for ship-from information)
- Your store URL for identification
Taxually cannot:
- Modify your orders
- Access customer payment details
- Change any store settings
- Access your products or inventory
OAuth Security
The connection uses Shopify's secure OAuth 2.0 authentication:
- Credentials are never shared directly
- Access tokens are encrypted and stored securely
- Permissions are limited to read-only access
- You can revoke access at any time by uninstalling the app
Data Sync Schedule
Once connected, your data is automatically synced:
- Monthly sync: 1st–5th of each month, includes previous month's orders and refunds
- Manual sync: On request, for a specific date range

If you need data synced outside the normal schedule, contact Taxually support with:
- Your store URL
- The date range you need synced
- The reason for the manual sync
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I connect the same store to multiple Taxually companies?
No, each store can only be connected to one company at a time. If you need to change the company, disconnect first, then reconnect to the new company.
Will disconnecting or uninstalling delete my historical data?
No, all previously synced data remains in Taxually. Only future automatic syncs will stop.
Do I need to keep the browser open during connection?
Yes, please don't close the browser tab until you see the success message and are redirected back to the Shopify app.
Can I connect stores from different Shopify accounts?
Yes, you can connect any number of separate Shopify stores to your Taxually account, regardless of which Shopify account they belong to.
What happens if I change my Shopify store URL?
Shopify stores are identified by their myshopify.com URL (e.g., my-store.myshopify.com), which cannot be changed. If you're referring to a custom domain, this doesn't affect the connection.
Is the Taxually Shopify app free?
Yes, the Taxually app is free to install. Taxually subscription plans are based on your transaction volume and filing requirements.
