Authorising Taxually for UK VAT filings

Modified on Wed, 27 Nov at 1:43 PM

In the UK, HMRC offers the ability to integrate filing software directly with their system. This means that once authorised, your tax returns can be automatically filed with HMRC—no manual steps required. This integration reduces the risk of human error and speeds up the submission process.

Steps to Authorise Taxually

To allow Taxually to file your tax returns with HMRC, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your CrossTax account.

  2. On your to-do list, you’ll see a task to authorise Taxually for filing on your behalf.

Note: This task will only appear if you have an active UK filing subscription. Once the authorisation is complete, the task will disappear.

  3. Click on the task link and follow the on-screen instructions. You’ll be redirected to HMRC’s portal, where you’ll need to log in with your HMRC Government Gateway credentials.

  4. Once the authorisation is successful, your Taxually account will be linked to HMRC. Going forward, your approved tax returns will be automatically filed with HMRC.

What If I Don’t Have HMRC Login Credentials?

If you don’t have your Government Gateway credentials, it’s possible that a previous service provider created the account on your behalf. If this is the case, please contact them to retrieve the login details.

If you’re unable to obtain the credentials, you’ll need to contact HMRC to reset your account. Unfortunately, HMRC does not allow agents to request access on your behalf.

Additional Notes

  • If Taxually is already authorised to file through our agent account, this task will not appear in your to-do list. In such cases, we’re already able to file your tax returns on your behalf.
  • Please ensure your filing subscription remains active for uninterrupted service.
